Q: What is our strategy to support non-standard voice networks - (Digital voice over Non-Managed Facilities Voice Networks).
A: Broadband IP based telephone service providers are available in the North American market. Some name brands such as Vonage service, or Magic Jack are notable - where the telephone signal uses the underlying internet service provider’s connection. Quality of Service (QOS) is variable - since the provider does not own the network.
Some of these service providers claim their telephone service allows for certain digital communications such as fax support, but the real key would be to contact them to determine if they support security alarm panel communications.
Finally, their FAQ section should address whether they deploy a battery-backup provision for their phone service. The PERS provider who is writing a contract for a subscriber on these networks should be aware of this, because if the power goes out – this subscriber may be out-of-luck.
