Commercially available wireless alarm communicators have been available for some time from companies like Telular, Uplink/Numerex and Tyco/DSC to pass traditional Alarm reports (such as Contact ID) over cellular communication protocols. Some products have even been enabled to support 2-way voice. Since this is typically advantageous for PERS applications, it should be on the list of questions to ask to qualify and deploy equipment that you intend to place in the field.
Some equipment providers offer a turn-key solution to process the signals through their operations for a monthly charge of approximately $7.50 to $10.00 per month, and can then forward them to any traditional Central Station Receiver via the Public Switched Telephone Network.
