What is voice-activated two-way audio?

Voice-activated (also referred to as VOX switching) two-way audio is an audio mode provided on Linear consoles for the convenience of PERS providers and clients. Under normal operating conditions, VOX allows for more natural, speakerphone-like discussions to occur between the PERS client and the central station operator – but it is important to emphasize that PERS consoles are not speakerphones – they are part of an Emergency Reporting System.
